"We were very focused on our experience and we achieved the goal of being the best Portuguese in the rally for the 13th time, and for the sixth consecutive time. I am very proud of that, because we fought hard for this success", said the driver from Santo Tirso.

Armindo Araújo considered that this year's edition of the Rally of Portugal was "very interesting and well organized by the Automóvel Club de Portugal", analyzing that the "surfaces of the special stages were very good, even better than expected".

"We know that, to run in a Rally of Portugal, you need to have a different strategy. We have to approach the race in an 'endurance' mode, knowing that you don't win anything on the first day, but you can lose a lot", he added.

The driver from Tirso, who in the symbolic classification of the best Portuguese driver in the Rally of Portugal surpassed Ricardo Teodósio (Hyundai) and Hélder Miranda (Peugeot), respectively, once again left a special word for the Portuguese public.

"It's great to feel the support of our public. We have a great passion for cars and that was seen in the north and center of the country. We don't just live on football. This is a sport in which the public adheres en masse, even in adverse weather conditions", he stressed.

Regarding his performance in the Portuguese Rally Championship (CPR), Armindo Araújo considered that he achieved an "important result" with the third place achieved, on Friday, for the national competition.

"We are constantly making the podium, but now we want to win", he said.

The CPR continues to be led by the Englishman Kris Meeke (Hyundai), in a participation that Armindo Araújo considers to be a "contradiction".

"In rallies we are obliged to register in the championship to be national champions. Having Meeke running here is good for the notoriety of the event, but he signs up to be national champion, when he can't? That's a contradiction, because he doesn't fulfill the premises for what he signed up for", he said.

Armindo Araújo, 46 years old, two-time world champion in Production rallies (PWRC), in 2009 and 2010, and national champion seven times (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2018, 2020 and 2022), contests Meeke's presence in the CPR.

"We run the risk of, at the end of the season, Portugal not having a national champion. I don't think it's the best for our sport", he added.
