In the fifth round of the championship, the podium at Le Mans was all Ducati: Martín got the better of another Spaniard, Marc Márquez, second, a mere 0.445 behind, with Italian Francesco Bagnaia, current two-time world champion, in third, 0.585 behind.

On the 'stage' of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for next month, 'Martinator' executed a perfect plan, by winning the sprint race and doing the same today over 41.23.709 minutes.

"Winning twice here at Le Mans is the best and most perfect of weekends," admitted the winner at the Bugatti Circuit.

Martín started from 'pole position', but ended up giving up the lead early to Bagnaia, who started second, and the two battled for the lead for much of the race.

Less than 10 laps (out of 27) from the end, Márquez, who had already done the same in the sprint, joined the two, in a recovery worthy of a film, going from 13th to get involved in the fight for first place.

With the stands red-hot, and a new attendance record for the race, according to the organisation, Martín prevailed and solidified his leadership of the World Championship, in a 'tight' finish decided by minimal margins.

Martín now has 129 points, against Bagnaia's 91 and Márquez and Enea Bastianini's (Ducati) 89, while Miguel Oliveira, who retired today, is 14th, with 23.

The 29-year-old Portuguese, who had been 11th in Saturday's race, had problems with his Aprilia, in the service of Trackhouse Racing, and joined the group of riders who did not finish at Le Mans.

The Portuguese rider, from Almada, had started from 12th, his best qualification this season, and was in eighth when he was called to the pits, on lap 16, with a problem with the rear tyre.

The next round of the World Championship is the Catalan Grand Prix, scheduled for 26 May, and a race that Miguel Oliveira won in 2021.
