The management committee of the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Zone announced an agreement to that effect with FAW-Volkswagen on Thursday.

Production of the three models, including two powered by new energy, is scheduled to start in 2026, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The three models will be either Audis or Volkswagens and will give a "strong boost to the high-quality development of the new energy automobile industry and intelligent connected vehicles," the agency said.

The German brand, together with FAW, currently has more than 100 plants worldwide, about 20 of them in China.

In August 2018, the German company opened a plant in Tianjin that produces Volkswagen and Audi SUVs, including hybrid versions, with a production capacity of 1,200 units per day and 300,000 units per year.
