Renault bets on autonomous mini-buses. Experimental version in action

Groupe Renault has defined its strategy for autonomous vehicles, separating the expectations of individual vehicles from the needs of public transport.
The French manufacturer's latest commitment is sustainable and autonomous mobility, and with this objective it is developing a platform for small electric, robotized and pre-equipped minibuses, which will host various automation solutions from specialized partners.
Autonomous minibuses will be able to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, safely, and are an environmentally friendly alternative and an effective complement to existing solutions such as trains, trams or buses.
Renault writes that the additional costs of robotization and automation can be offset by the absence of drivers. These minibuses will be available in an experimental service during the Grand Slam tennis tournament, Roland Garros, which runs from May 26 to June 9. For the safety of all involved, a remote supervision system will be needed to operate this fleet of vehicles.
"Groupe Renault is moving forward with the implementation of its autonomous vehicle strategy. Thus, thanks to our experiences and our partners, the best in their fields, we will be able, well before the end of this decade, to offer a very relevant range of autonomous and low-carbon minibuses to meet the growing needs of the regions," said Gilles Le Borgne, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Groupe Renault.
