The Lisbon City Council released the figures for speed control radars over the last two years and between 1 June 2022 and 30 April this year, "548,880 offences were detected by fixed radars".
Which one 'caught' the most traffic violations? The 'award' for the radar with the most fines goes to the one located on Avenida Lusíada (west-east direction), next to the Hospital dos Lusíadas, with 80,534 offences.
Right behind it is the one on Avenida Eusébio da Silva Ferreira (east-west direction), in front of the Fonte Nova Shopping Centre, with 63,937 offences recorded during the same period.
It should be noted that, regarding the radars that record the most offences, the top 10 also includes those located on avenidas Padre Cruz, Brasília and Infante Dom Henrique.
There are currently 41 fixed speed control radars in Lisbon. These started operating on 1 June 2022, featuring "more advanced technology" that allows for the monitoring of multiple lanes.
Two years ago, 41 new radars were described as new, but the truth is that 21 replaced old equipment and 20 were placed in new locations.
