"FESTAMBO aims to be a diversified festival, both in terms of locations and the genres it involves", explained to Lusa agency the president of the Ourém Music Band Academy (AMBO), Fernando Marques.
From fado to erudite music, until June 10th, the festival will go through various aesthetics presented by groups formed by a total of around 600 performers. Among the programme, Fernando Marques highlights "a very unique concert", scheduled for June 8th, at the Paulo VI Pastoral Centre, in Fátima: "The [performance of the] Portuguese Typical Orchestra which, in practice, is the junction of four orchestras from four regions, the typical orchestras, which are a unique group and which, at this moment, only four exist with regular activity in Portugal: Águeda, Castelo Branco and Ourém". The show to be presented is called "Retalhos da cultura das nossas gentes" (Scraps of our people's culture) and, according to the organiser, will be a special moment of FESTAMBO, "due to the circumstance of having the context that brings together the universe of these four regions, as well as being an activity that aims to preserve and promote what is our Portuguese musical culture". The festival begins on Sunday with fado, fulfilling one of AMBO's objectives, "to value emerging artists, especially when they are also related to this territory". In this case, the fado singer Catarina Perdigão will perform, accompanied by Nuno Neves (Portuguese guitar) and Pedro Pinhal (viola). On May 11th, the pianist and researcher João Costa Ferreira presents "Piano em português - Da composição à interpretação" (Piano in Portuguese - From composition to interpretation), and on the 18th, traditional music can be heard with the Romeiros da AMBO, Pinhal d'El Rei and 9 Ritmos. Children's choirs, Jovens ao Palco (Youth on Stage) and Poesia da Liberdade (Poetry of Freedom) are other moments of the programme, which ends on June 10th, at the Convent of Christ, in Tomar, with "Otonifonias". It will be, anticipates Fernando Marques, "a celebration of Portuguese music, with a tribute to the composer Joly Braga Santos", on the occasion of his centenary, by the AMBO Wind Orchestra, Camerata Oureana and the cellist Irene Lima. In addition to the extension to Tomar and the shows in the county seat, the programme reaches five parishes of Ourém.
