'Women's Revolution'. A choir of 45 women gives a show in Coimbra

The show "is a live manifesto that originated from the idea of vocal work on the text 'Women's Revolution', by Maria Velho da Costa", states Casa da Esquina, in a press release sent to the Lusa agency.

With staging by Helena Faria and Filipa Alves, a chorus of voices of 45 women interprets that text written almost 50 years ago, but it will not stop there, there will also be a journey from that work, rescuing "other stories of other women".

"This text, as distant in time as it is current, marks the times in which we are always starting over, because the struggles for equality are still the order of the day, because despite all the evolutions, there is always a stick in the gears that prevents it from working", states Casa da Esquina.

The show, which will be presented in the Black Box of the Convento São Francisco, is based on the text by Maria Velho da Costa about a collective subject "Elas", which on stage takes shape through the chorus of women.

"The activities of everyday life, the socio-cultural relationships, the economic conditions, the pains of childbirth, the shattered or secret dreams, continue to have heavy contours of frustration in the lives of women", emphasizes Casa da Esquina.

If in the text by Maria Velho da Costa, the lives of four million women were discussed, the show adds another million, "as many as have grown in these years of democracy", it states.

"We also add the voices and stories of real or fictional women, raw. All of them victims of a patriarchal society shaped by a macho mentality that insists on remaining. As if the history of mentalities and practices were always suffering setbacks. All of them needing a loud cry", it emphasizes.

In addition to the chorus of 45 women, the show features performances by actresses Cláudia Carvalho, Gracinda Nave, Helena Faria, Joana Pupo and Teresa Faria.

The show, which lasts one hour, will take place at 9:30 pm.

Tickets cost between six and eight euros.
