"The Portuguese Cycling Federation deeply regrets the death of Fernando Emílio, sending its deepest condolences to all family and friends", reads the note, which recalls the career of the FPC Merit Member, awarded in April 2023.

The federation recalls Fernando Emílio's long career in the media, in which "he began to stand out on the radio, with football reports and, above all, roller hockey".

"Passionate about cycling, he also stood out in radio cycling reports, before embarking on a career in the press. For almost two decades, he wrote about cycling in the newspaper A Bola, being one of the journalists with the greatest passion and knowledge about the sport, recognized by different generations of communication professionals, in Portugal and abroad", he recalls.

In August last year, the journalist was honored by the organization of the Volta a Portugal, for completing 50 editions in the race, also receiving the medal and diploma of FPC Merit Member.

Known as 'Godfather' in the caravan, for having helped to train several generations of journalists who followed the Volta a Portugal, the Alentejo native began his 'cycling' career at Emissores Associados de Lisboa, in 1973, and worked for Rádio Comercial (1975-2005), before becoming a columnist for the newspaper A Bola.

The funeral of Fernando Emílio will take place on Sunday, at 3 pm, in Évora, and the wake will take place on Saturday, from 4 pm, at the Igreja da Sagrada Família, in Álamos, in the same city in Alentejo.
