Created in 2017 by Lusa agency photojournalist António Cotrim, 'Uma Imagem Solidária' consists of donating a photograph (measuring 30 x 40 centimetres), which will then be purchased by the public in exchange for a minimum donation of 20 euros. The donation goes to an association, which varies from edition to edition.

"This year we will support the artists, paying our homage to all those who, in the past, made us laugh and cry, who made us travel and dream. We will say 'thank you' and show our recognition for those who dedicate their lives to being part of our lives", said the organisation of the project at the beginning of the year, when it announced the recipient of this edition.

Photojournalist António Cotrim says that this year there are 70 photos, "all from important names in photography" and that he hopes this edition will be as successful as the first.

"In the 50th anniversary of April we decided to support the Casa do Artista, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Culture had a very important role on April 25th and it should be remembered as such when marking the 50th anniversary of the revolution", said António Cotrim in yet another justification for the recipient of this year's support.

The actor and president of the Casa do Artista, José Raposo is the godfather/ambassador of this edition, of the initiative that has the sponsorship of the President of the Republic, who in a video message left to the organisation highlights the "social purpose" of this initiative.

"This year [the support is attributed] to the Casa do Artista. Which is a way of saying, to think, to support those who made us smile, laugh, live, cry, share emotions throughout lives, lives and lives", says Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

"This is an initiative of the civil society, of photographers, thinking of an institution that has so few means and that needs your and our support so much", he highlights.

The initiative, which will once again take place at the Portuguese Communications Foundation, in Lisbon, also has the sponsorships of the Lusa agency, the Portuguese Communications Foundation and also of Dell Technologies, Visapress, Colorfoto, FinePrint, TunetRadio, Guache Condomínios and Logotexto.

The organisation states that, "besides contributing to a noble cause, this initiative promotes the art of photography and values the work of the photojournalists and photographers involved in the solidarity campaign".

Last year, the donations went to an institution that supports women with disabilities who are victims of violence in Águeda, the Casa de Abrigo da CERCIAG.

Next year, this project will be transformed into an association - the Associação Uma Imagem Solidária -- which will develop the work done so far.
