PLAY Winners - Portuguese Music Awards are announced today

The winners of the PLAY -- Portuguese Music Awards will be announced tonight at a ceremony in Lisbon, which includes performances by, among others, Diogo Piçarra and Pedro Abrunhosa, SYRO and Bispo, and D.A.M.A with Buba Espinho.

Musicians Slow J and Pedro Mafama, with three nominations each, are the most nominated in the 6th edition of PLAY, promoted by Audiogest - Association for the Management and Distribution of Rights and by GDA - Management of Artists' Rights, in partnership with RTP and Vodafone.

The awards ceremony, which takes place at the Coliseu dos Recreios and will be presented by Filomena Cautela and Inês Lopes Gonçalves, starts at 9 pm in Lisbon and can be watched live on RTP1, RTP Internacional, RTP África, RTP Play and Antena 1.

Slow J and Pedro Mafama compete in the Song of the Year category -- with 'Where U @' and 'Preço Certo', respectively -- and Best Male Artist.

In addition, Slow J is also nominated in the Album of the Year category, with 'Afro Fado', and Pedro Mafama in the Best Video Clip category, with 'Estrada', directed by André Caniços.

In the Song of the Year category, whose winner is chosen by the public, in addition to Slow J and Pedro Mafama, Ivandro is also nominated, with 'Chakras', a song featuring Julinho KSD, Bárbara Tinoco, with 'Chamada não atendida', Bárbara Bandeira, with the duet with Ivandro 'Como tu', and Nuno Ribeiro, Calema and Mariza, with 'Maria Joana'.

Calema are nominated, with D.A.M.A., Os Quatro e Meia and Wet Bed Gang in the Best Group category.

For the PLAY for Best Male Artist, in addition to Slow J and Pedro Mafama, Ivandro and T-Rex also compete.

Nominated for the PLAY for Best Album are, in addition to 'Afro Fado', by Slow J, 'Cor d'Água', by T-Rex, 'Portuguesa', by Carminho, and "Vida", by Jorge Palma.

Carminho is one of the nominees for the PLAY for Best Female Artist. In addition to the fado singer, A Garota Não, Ana Moura and Bárbara Bandeira also compete for the award.

For the PLAY for Best Video Clip, in addition to 'Estrada' by Pedro Mafama, 'Escura noite', by Peculiar and directed by Maria Beatriz Castelo, 'Fim do Nada', by Mizzy Miles, with T-Rex and Zara G, directed by XZ, and 'Ressaca Bailada', by Expresso Transatlântico and directed by Sebastião Varela.

Expresso Transatlântico also compete in the Revelation Artist category, for which Ana Lua Caiano, Jüra and LEO2745 are also nominated.

This year a category was created: Light and Popular Music Award, in which Zé Amaro competes, with the song 'Meu coração de cowboy apaixonado', Sons do Minho, with 'Recomeçar', Bandalusa, with 'Sapato apertado', and José Malhoa, with 'Vamos ò baile'.

In the 6th edition of PLAY, the Lusophony Award, Best Fado Album, Best Jazz Album, Best Classical/Erudite Music Album, Career and Criticism are also awarded.

The last two have no nominees and are awarded by the promoters of the PLAY awards (Career Award) and by a panel of music journalists (Critics' Award).
