Musicians Sérgio Godinho, Capicua, Valete and Cristina Branco are some of the names that will be part of this year's 48th edition of the Avante! Festival, which will also feature several shows dedicated to the 50th anniversary of April 25th.

The 48th edition of the Avante Festival, the traditional event of the PCP that marks the party's political 'rentrée', will take place between September 6th and 8th at Quinta da Atalaia, in Amora, Seixal.

In a statement, the PCP states that this year's edition will feature several "shows to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in its many dimensions", starting with a concert by Sérgio Godinho, accompanied by the band Assessores and the 'rapper' Capicua.

Also in this vein of celebrating the 50th anniversary of April 25th, the show 'Zeca Sempre' will also take to the stage, in which musicians Olavo Bilac (former vocalist of Santos & Pecadores), Nuno Guerreiro, Tozé Santos and Vítor Silva sing songs by José Afonso and "other singer-songwriters who helped illustrate the meaning of the revolution".

A "tribute to Portuguese women and their emancipation is brought by the show 'A Mulher é uma Arma'", directed by producer Renato Júnior, and with the participation of Ana Bacalhau, Katia Guerreiro, Luanda Cozetti, Maria João, Rita Redshoes and Sofia Escobar, adds the party.

As usual, the Avante! Festival dedicates part of its poster to artists from Portuguese-speaking countries, with emphasis on Brazilian artist Bia Ferreira, "one of the most disruptive voices in recent years of Brazilian music", who will take to the stage with Dino D'Santiago, Eva RapDiva and Mázinha.

Portuguese pianist and composer Mário Laginha will perform in a duet with Cape Verdean musician Tcheka, on a stage that will also feature Brazilian punk-rock band Garotos Podres, and musicians from Guinea-Bissau Nancy Vieira and Remna.

Among the national artists, the Avante! Festival once again features The Legendary Tigerman and Bruno Pernadas, and renews its commitment to fado, with artists such as Cristina Branco or Hélder Moutinho and a tribute show to guitarist Carlos Paredes, with Luísa Amaro, Mafalda Lemos and Gonçalo Lopes.

Portuguese 'rap' icon Valete will also participate in this year's edition, as will DJ and producer Branko, and Ana Tijoux, a French-Chilean 'hip-hop' singer.

Among the debuts at the Avante! Festival, are Ana Lua Caiano, who released her first album this year ("Vou ficar neste quadrado"), and the project Cara de Espelho, which has Mito Mendes (A Naifa) as vocalist and brings together musicians who belonged to Deolinda, Gaiteiros de Lisboa, Ornatos Violeta and Humanos.
