Maia International Comic Festival is back

O Maia BD - International Comics Festival is back from May 24 to 26 with exhibitions, work launches, cinema and workshops, with the hope of "capturing new audiences", the organization told Lusa today.

In statements to Lusa, the Maia City Council's Culture Councillor, who organizes the event together with the publishing cooperative A Seita, stressed that the programme for what will be the second edition of Maia BD is "very intense, quite diverse and designed for various Comic Book (CB) audiences".

According to Councillor Mário Nuno Neves, the 2024 edition of Maia BD - International Comic Book Festival, to be held at the Maia Forum, in the district of Porto, will have "three different exhibitions, 11 book launches, 21 invited Portuguese authors, five Lusophone authors, five international authors, several autograph sessions, film and short film screenings and also several 'workshops'".

"This festival has reasons to interest all comic book audiences and with the hope that this initiative will attract new audiences, all of them different. CB is a very important cultural manifestation, both from an artistic point of view and from a literary point of view and this event fills a gap in the North of the country regarding this type of art", considered the person responsible.

The Maia Forum will host several exhibitions at this festival, which will remain open after the festival, until 16 June, including "Classics of Portuguese Literature in CB", "Mafalda from A to Z", "Elviro", "Infernal Visions: Dante's Inferno in CB" or "Alfons Font, the adventure paths from Jon Rohner to Tex".

Authors invited to the event are Alfonso Font, André Diniz, André Lima Araújo, André Mateus, André Morgado, António Jorge Gonçalves, Daniel Henriques, Diogo Carvalho, D' Janice Bettencourt, Evandro Renan, Filipa Beleza, Filipe Duarte, Gaëtan Brizzi, Gonçalo Fernandes, Hugo Pinto, João Miguel Lameiras, Jorge Coelho, Jorge Pinto, Mana Neyestani, Mário Freitas, Martin Jamar, Miguel Mendonça, Nayole Nettencourt, Nuno Artur Silva, Nuno Duarte, Osvaldo Medina, Paulo J. Mendes, Raquel Costa, Ricardo Santo, Taha Siddiqui and Tainan Rocha.

All events have free admission and the full programme can be found on the local authority's website.
