Portuguese actress Isabel de Carvalho died on Friday at the age of 99. The revelation was made this Saturday by the Portuguese Film Academy in a Facebook post.
Isabel de Carvalho lived the last years of her life in the Casa do Artista and would have turned 100 on 10 June. The artist made her debut in 1941, alongside Eunice Muñoz at the Teatro Nacional with the play 'O Vendaval'.
Two years later, she made her film debut in 'O Costa do Castelo' by Arthur Duarte and in 1946 she participated in 'Camões' by Leitão de Barros.
"When she married, she decided to interrupt her acting career and dedicated herself to tutoring hundreds of children in Paço de Arcos, the town where she lived most of her life," wrote the Portuguese Film Academy. After her marriage, the actress, who participated in only two classics of Portuguese cinema, "never returned to acting".
