Leiria's Black Box dedicated to artistic creation with a concert by João Gil
A concert by João Gil marks the inauguration in Leiria of Black Box -- Artistic Creation Platform, a new cultural space of municipal initiative that proposes a dozen other proposals in the first days of activity.

Installed in the city center, on the lower floors of the 'O Paço' building, once the episcopal residence and currently the Leiria Citizen's Shop, the Black Box is an investment that aims to contribute to the cultural dynamism of the municipality and to the revitalization of the historic center, advanced the City Council.
Designed to host multidisciplinary cultural events, with "maximum flexibility, providing all stakeholders with the greatest possible number of scenic options", the space was recovered after several years of abandonment, which followed a period in which it functioned as a cinema complex.
Co-financed by community funds, the investment for the installation of the Black Box exceeded 1.5 million euros.
The new cultural space occupies almost two thousand square meters distributed over three floors, one of which is fully adapted for artists with reduced mobility. It has several work areas, a performance hall with capacity for 120 spectators and "cutting-edge audiovisual technology", said the Council.
The municipality intends to direct the programming towards artistic residencies and the production of music, theater, dance or performing arts shows, of an intimate or experimental nature.
The first show scheduled for the Black Box is the concert 'Só se salva o amor', by João Gil, on Wednesday, from 9:30 pm.
Until Sunday, the Artistic Creation Platform opens to the public for open dance, theater and jazz classes, dance performances, theater, workshop and children's choir performance, concerts and a session with storytellers.
