Concerts with Tony Carreira and Richie Campbell at Terreiro do Paço and Mariza's fado at the Castle are some of the dozens of initiatives of the Festas de Lisboa, which celebrate Saint Anthony, the city's main patron saint, in June.

The program of the festivities was released today by EGEAC -- Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural da Câmara de Lisboa and also includes 15 popular arraiais, exhibitions, races, classical music and jazz concerts and cinema, in addition to the Marchas Populares and other more traditional initiatives.

The festivities end at the end of June with two shows at Terreiro do Paço, the first on the 29th, by Tony Carreira and special guests, accompanied by a 16-string orchestra.

The following day, Richie Campbell, recognized as the "first musical phenomenon of the Internet in Portugal", takes to Terreiro do Paço "a show created 'for and by Lisbon', which will bring together other guest musicians on stage", according to the organization.

Fado singer Mariza will sing her old and new album hits on a fado night at Castelo de São Jorge, on the 20th, at 9:30 pm, in a show with free admission until the space is full.

At the Grande Auditório da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, on June 15th, at 7:00 pm, a "Musical Journey through Europe" by the Orquestra Gulbenkian will take place, under the direction of maestro Cesário Costa, with emphasis on classical music from the 19th and 20th centuries, with free admission (limited to two tickets per person).

Jazz has a presence at the Lisbon festivities from June 1st to 15th, with seven concerts at Largo do Picadeiro, with national and international artists.

"O Tejo Afinal" is the song of this year's Grande Marcha, "which speaks of the multiple colors of the river that reflect the people, customs and traditions of Lisbon".

The neighborhood marches will be presented to the public and the jury for the first time in the exhibitions at the MEO Arena pavilion (on May 31st, June 1st and 2nd).

On the night of Santo António, the parade of the Marchas Populares, on Avenida da Liberdade, begins with guests from the Associação Geral Desportiva de Macau Lo Leong, who will present the Dragon Dance, to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

The marches of Olivais, Alfama, Baixa, Santa Engrácia, Carnide, Castelo, Bela Flor-Campolide, Alcântara, Bica, Madragoa, São Vicente, Bairro da Boavista, Bairro Alto, Graça, Alto do Pina, Belém, Marvila, Penha de França, Mouraria and Lumiar, in addition to the children's marches of the schools of Lisbon and of "A Voz do Operário", the Marcha dos Mercados and the Marcha Santa Casa, will parade on the Avenida.

The program also includes 15 popular arraiais in eight parishes of the city: Alcântara, Carnide, Estrela, Misericórdia, Olivais, Penha de França, Santa Maria Maior and São Vicente.

In addition to the marches and arraiais, the Casamentos de Santo António stand out, a tradition that began in 1958, which this year "blesses" the union of 16 couples in civil and religious ceremonies, at the Paços do Concelho and at the Sé de Lisboa, on June 12th, starting at 11:30 am.

The exhibition of the Tronos de Santo António will color the streets between June 8th and 30th and throughout the month the local commerce will have the "Montras em Festa", with special decorations dedicated to the popular saint.

The Corrida de Santo António will take place on June 2nd, starting at 9:00 am, in Belém, and this year, in addition to the traditional 10-kilometer (km) race, it also has a 4-km walk available, starting and finishing at Praça do Império.

Typical boats from the Tagus, with their owners and skippers, coming from various points of the estuary will be gathered at Cais das Colunas, on June 8th, starting at 10:00 am.

The program also includes CineConchas, with nine outdoor cinema sessions at Quinta das Conchas (program at www.cineconchas.pt/2023/), and Arraial Pride, at Terreiro do Paço, on June 22nd, in addition to several exhibitions.

At the Torreão Nascente da Cordoaria Nacional, starting on May 23rd, there will be an exhibition with the works of art acquired by the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa in 2023.

At Galeria Quadrum, "Festa Cá Em Casa" is on display until September 8th, an exhibition of contemporary art with works by various plastic artists, conceived by Maria do Mar Fazenda.

On May 26th, the Museu de Lisboa -- Palácio Pimenta will open the exhibition Lisboa em Revolução, 1383-1974, curated by Daniel Alves, included in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th, which includes works from the Museum's collections and pieces loaned by dozens of institutions.

In addition to tradition, the program of the festivities opens this year to the diversity of the city, including initiatives such as the Bollywood Holi Festival and the Indian Market, at the Comunidade Hindu de Portugal (on the 2nd), the Korean Culture Festival, at the Museu de Lisboa -- Palácio Pimenta (on the 8th), the Thai Festival (between the 21st and 23rd) and the Festa do Japão (on the 29th), at Jardim Vasco da Gama, in Belém.
