Government creates structure for the commemorations of the 5th centenary of Camões
The Government today approved the mission structure responsible for the commemorations of the 5th centenary of the birth of Luís de Camões, to be held between 10 June 2024 and 10 June 2026, with full professor Rita Marnoto as general commissioner.

The new mission structure, created by the Council of Ministers Resolution passed today, also includes an executive director, the publisher Vasco Silva, a name associated in particular with the publication of Fernando Pessoa.
The creation of the mission structure follows the creation of the advisory committee responsible for defining the program for the commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões, on December 28, which had the mission of defining the program of commemorations to be presented to the Ministry of Culture, until the 20th of this month.
The constitution of this advisory committee was determined in May 2021, by resolution of the Council of Ministers, establishing its composition by representatives of the "entities responsible for coordinating various dimensions of the program", with the mission of defining this program, initially until the end of 2022, together with the commissioner of the commemorations since then appointed, Professor Rita Marnoto.
The committee, constituted only at the end of December last year, was composed of representatives of the Camões Institute, the National Library of Portugal, the Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries, and the Director-General for the Arts.
A full professor at the University of Coimbra, Rita Marnoto has dedicated herself to teaching and researching Italian and Portuguese literature, with an extensive bibliography dedicated to Luís Vaz de Camões.
The publisher Vasco Silva is responsible for several anthologies of Portuguese authors, such as 'Amar é Pensar - Antologia de Poemas de Amor de Fernando Pessoa' and 'Obra Essencial de Mário de Sá-Carneiro - Edição do Centenário', following the plan of the complete work by Fernando Pessoa for the edition of the author of 'Consissão de Lúcio', published by E-Primatur.
