Desporto Marco Materazzi

Marco Materazzi has given an extensive interview to this Sunday’s edition of British newspaper The Times, in which he has once again addressed one of the most iconic moments in the history of the World Cup.

We are talking, of course, about the 2006 final, in which he scored the goal that 'fired' the game into a penalty shootout, where 'his' Italy would end up defeating France. More specifically, the moment when he got Zinédine Zidane so angry that he headbutted him.

Now, the former central defender, aged 50, has admitted that he did not behave in the best possible way. He also regretted not having had the opportunity to clear the air with his fellow professional since then.

"I don't like it, because it doesn't do justice to what my career was. It should never have happened. In the final tension, amidst the banter and insults, Zidane offered me his shirt, and I said 'no', that I preferred his sister", he said.

"Then he turned to me and reacted in the way that everyone remembers. I never saw Zidane again", he added.
