Moments after yet another achievement in the service of Palmeiras, this time with a triumph over Santos (2-0, 2-1 on aggregate) in the final of the Paulistão, Abel Ferreira did not hesitate to recall a conversation he had with his wife in 2020, about his move to Brazil, which he confesses he did not foresee would be so long, and he also addressed the way players are criticized for their mistakes on the field in Brazilian football.

"I'll be honest. At the time [2020] I told my wife to be calm because I thought I would come for about three months and then they would send me away. I can't lie. I didn't expect to be able to win so much here in Brazil," he began by revealing.

!Here they 'kill' the players, they don't criticize them. The term criticism is mild considering what they do to players in Brazil. In general, the Brazilian player who is mentally strong plays anywhere in the world. Here a player misses an opportunity near the goal and is seen as the villain," he added next.

"It is in these terms that I then ask if they saw the rest of the game. Why do we look at that player as a villain? Aren't there ten more on the field? And the coach? Does there always have to be a hero and a villain? I don't accept that. There is a very big mental impact on the player. The athlete is 'killed' mentally," completed the Portuguese coach.

It should be recalled that since his move to Brazil in 2020, Abel Ferreira has won two Brazilian championships (2022 and 2023), a Copa do Brasil (2020), a Supercopa do Brasil (2023), three Paulistas championships (2022, 2023 and 2024), two Libertadores (2020 and 2021) and a South American Recopa (2022). All this in just four years, allowing to equal Oswaldo Brandão at the top of the list of coaches with the most titles won at Palmeiras.
