FC Porto's two consecutive defeats in the I League, against Estoril (1-0) and Vitória SC (1-2), made access to the Champions League practically a utopia, given the nine-point distance to rival Benfica, in second place, and still 13 points from leader Sporting - something that, in itself, will already have consequences for next season.

The team led by Sérgio Conceição remains in third place, with 58 points, just two more than rivals Sporting de Braga and Vitória SC, still needing to secure a place in the Europa League, before dropping to the Conference League. Even so, according to the accounts highlighted by the newspaper O Jogo, in Tuesday's printed edition, the unlikely return to the Champions League will lead to a transformation of around 40 million... in just 12 million.

The hole of almost 30 million euros happens precisely because of the difference in notoriety between the main and second most important European club competitions, it is worth emphasizing that everything depends on the final of the Portuguese Cup.

The direct access place in the Europa League is guaranteed if FC Porto wins the Portuguese football Queen's Cup or if it finishes third and goes to the Jamor final - immediately removing the direct possibility for Vitória SC, an opponent who beat in the first leg of the 'semis', in Guimarães (0-1). Otherwise, the start of the 2024/25 season could happen even earlier than expected, in a possible passage through European qualifiers.

In any of the scenarios, it is certain that FC Porto will suffer a 'financial shock' by not being able to count on the usual slice of the Champions League revenue and this could lead to the sale of one or two of the biggest assets, according to the same publication.
