The new executive wants to update the Physical Activity and Sports Framework Act, as well as extend representation on the National Sports Council to associations representing physical education teachers. It is also committed to reviewing the statute of the sports leader in a voluntary regime and to encouraging the participation of women in sports and management.

The Democratic Alliance (AD) Government Program was approved today by the Council of Ministers, on the eve of two days of debate in parliament, on Thursday and Friday.

The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, stated that the document is based on the AD electoral program, but incorporates "more than 60 measures from the electoral programs of other parties with parliamentary representation".

In the program presented today, which differs little from the Democratic Alliance (AD) electoral program, the Government lists as commitments the revision of the National Training Program for Coaches, the reinforcement of the commitment to integrity in Sports, and the creation of the Sports Observatory.

According to the program, the mission of the Sports Observatory is to "involve academia, national sports entities and public administration, with the mission of enabling the definitions and implementation of public policies and multi-sector decision-making by sports agents and entities".

"The Government believes that the country's true potential for sports development will be achieved through a robust and judicious investment program, efficiently and sustainably framed by strategic planning, with the involvement of all agents, promoting participation, excellence and inclusion in sports", states the chapter of the program dedicated to the area.

Thus, the Executive led by Luís Montenegro wants, through a global strategic plan, to increase the rates of frequent and quality sports practice for the entire population, and to promote sports and physical activity throughout the national territory.

The plan should also, according to the program, "segment the promotion of sports practice: master sports (senior), women's sports, inclusive sports, school sports, sports for people with disabilities, family sports, sports in companies", as well as "identify new sports trends for the development of new participation programs".

In the new government, the area will be supervised by Pedro Dias, who took over the State Secretariat for Sports, which will be under the ministerial supervision of Parliamentary Affairs, as was the case in the previous executive, which, however, joined the Sports and Youth portfolios in the same secretariat.

On Tuesday, the new Secretary of State for Sports stated that he wanted to have "a posture of dialogue and enormous involvement of all sports agents", three days after taking office in Luís Montenegro's Government.

"We will assume permanently, with a posture of dialogue and with the enormous involvement of all sports agents, in order to achieve the greatest participation of all in national sports policy", said the minister, during the gala celebrating the centenary of the Portuguese Skating Federation (FPP).
