"At Gérald Darmanin's request, there will be no ban on Benfica fans travelling to Marseille on 18 April", the minister's office indicated, after the Lisbon club's reaction and when French fans were stating that they were on their way to Lisbon.

The information from the office came a few hours before today's first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals between Benfica and Marseille (20:00), at the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, and after the Portuguese club had also vetoed the presence of French fans, in response to a similar measure by the French.

On Tuesday, Benfica reported having been notified by the French authorities regarding the ban on its fans at the second leg next week.

A situation that resulted in an identical recommendation from the Portuguese police forces for Marseille fans, which the club accepted and decided to cancel the tickets already issued and purchased by their rivals for today's match at the Estádio da Luz.
