Court changes Pedro Rocha's status from witness to defendant

The former president of the Management Committee and now announced as the sole candidate for the RFEF, was summoned to give a statement today as a witness in the process that investigates alleged irregularities in Federation contracts over the last five years.

Pedro Rocha left the court after his statement as a witness was suspended and already in the capacity of a defendant, but he assured that he was calm.

"I leave with exactly the same calmness with which I entered. I am well. I have a very clear conscience", said the leader, adding, when questioned, that he did not participate in the Federation's contract with Saudi Arabia.

Judge Delia Rodrigo changed Pedro Rocha's status, after accepting the petition of the prosecutor José Miguel Alonso, given the lack of answers from the Federation's leader and the lack of knowledge that he said he had on the issues raised.

Pedro Rocha, who was vice-president for the financial area, defended that he had nothing to do with the contracts investigated for alleged irregularities in the management of Luís Rubiales and, under his new status as defendant, will be heard on April 29.

Also the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales, indicted for several crimes within the scope of an alleged corruption scheme, will answer before the Spanish justice on April 29.

Rubiales, who is also being investigated for the forced kiss he gave to footballer Jenni Hermoso, after winning the 2023 World Cup, is indicted for the crimes of corruption, money laundering, harmful management and criminal organization.

The judicial authorities are investigating alleged illegalities committed during the five years in which Rubiales led the federative body, between 2018 and 2023, focusing on the business of relocating the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, estimated at 40 million euros per year.

The deal was brokered by Kosmos, a company owned by former Spanish international footballer Gerard Piqué, who, like the former president of the RFEF, defended the legality of the process, after excerpts of telephone conversations between the two were published in the media, in which commissions of millions of euros were mentioned.
