Liverpool suffered their first home defeat of the Premier League season on Sunday as Crystal Palace won 1-0 at Anfield to leave the Reds' title hopes hanging by a thread. Less than 24 hours after Manchester City had moved top of the table, and with Arsenal still to play, Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten in a match of few clear chances.
The only goal of the game came in the first half when Eberechi Eze fired home in the 14th minute and although Liverpool created a number of openings thereafter, they were unable to find an equaliser, with Dean Henderson making a string of saves and the hosts lacking a cutting edge.
Diogo Jota came off the bench in the second half having made his return from injury against Atalanta in midweek but could not help Liverpool salvage a point.
The defeat leaves Liverpool with 71 points after 33 games, two behind leaders Manchester City and level with Arsenal, who can move top with a win over Aston Villa later on Sunday.
Victory for Palace, meanwhile, moves them 10 points clear of the relegation zone and up to 14th place.
