Mafra and Feirense draw nil-nil in a game of two halves
Mafra and Feirense drew 0-0 today in a match of the 29th round of the Portuguese football second division, in a result that pleased the visitors more, who are fleeing from the relegation places.

With this draw, Mafra, with 39 points, rises to ninth place in the standings, one point behind Torreense. Feirense, with 26 points, has earned a valuable point in the fight to remain in the professional leagues, occupying the 16th position, the play-off spot for remaining, one point behind Oliveirense, who have one fewer game played, and three more than Belenenses.
The game had two distinct halves and in the first half the football was attacking. In the opening 15 minutes, both teams managed to create well-designed moves and the ball was dangerously close to the goals. Although Mafra had more of the ball, it was Feirense who caused more concern for Oláfsson, specifically with a shot from Antoine that skimmed the Mafra post.
The scenario was reversed shortly afterwards in two consecutive moves, in which Mafra came very close to opening the scoring. In the first attempt, Diao shot against the post, with Calai completely beaten and, in the sequence of the move, Lucas Gabriel, in an acrobatic shot, saw the goalkeeper shine with a great save that kept the score at zero.
The final minutes of the first half were played at a slower pace, with some stoppages in play due to injuries, and the second half showed two teams more concerned with not conceding space, further away from the goal and with the players fitting in perfectly, with no space to play.
In one of the rare opportunities when that space appeared, Dudu escaped from the Mafra defense and was brought down by Oláfsson in the penalty area. Referee Artur Soares Dias even pointed to the penalty spot, but the move ended up being disallowed for offside by the Santa Maria da Feira player and the initial 0-0 score remained until the final whistle.
