Palmeiras wins, but Abel doesn't spare the pitch: "I prefer synthetic"
Portuguese coach warns that Vitória's 'carpet' "will leave marks".

Palmeiras entered the 2024 season of the Brazilian championship on the 'right foot' in the early hours of Sunday into Monday, when they visited and defeated Vitória, by 0-1, thanks to a goal scored by Richard Rios, at 20 minutes.
After the final whistle, the coach of the reigning canary champions, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, was satisfied with what he saw from the team. Even so, he took the opportunity to criticize the pitch of the Manoel Barradas Stadium, in Salvador, which, he warned, will leave scars on the players.
"A spectacular atmosphere. Congratulations to our supporters and those of Vitória, who, at the beginning of the game, put on a very beautiful show. A hard, difficult, high pitch. I prefer synthetic, honestly", he said, in statements reproduced by the Brazilian portal Globoesporte.
"It's a pitch that will leave us marked for the next game [against Flamengo]. You saw the difficulty of those who came in and those who started. The players arrived in the locker room and didn't even have the strength to take off their clothes", he continued.
"I congratulate the players for their effort. It was a difficult game, against an organized team, which had not lost in 23 games, at home, and which, in the end, made us defend a little lower", he completed.
