Desporto I Liga

FC Porto have dismissed Iván Jaime Jorge Sánchez, André Franco and Toni Martínez from the main squad, following a series of 'black' results, in which they were only able to achieve two victories in the last six games.

The news was reported in Tuesday's edition of the newspaper Record, and confirmed to Desporto ao Minuto by a source close to the decision, which came as a result of the performance and, above all, the attitude shown by the four players, during what is the most difficult phase of the season.

In the case of Iván Jaime, the 'straw that broke the camel's back' was the performance he put in last Saturday, in the 2-2 draw against Famalicão, in which he started, before being substituted, at half-time, by Mehdi Taremi, who would score the last goal of the night.

Against his former team, the Spaniard did not make any shots on target, any successful crosses, any duels won or any ball recoveries, and he also lost the ball in the only two dribbles he attempted.

However, the discomfort with the midfielder dates back to pre-season, when, as Desporto ao Minuto knows, he showed up overweight and had to be followed by a nutritionist, facing several 'fluctuations' since then.

The frivolous way in which Iván Jaime showed up, in the training sessions that followed this new 'slip', was another factor that contributed to this outcome. A problem that was also identified in Jorge Sánchez.

The right-back on loan from Ajax made it easy for the Minhotos, by arriving late to the move that culminated in Jhonder Cádiz's second goal, at the Dragão, but it was more the way he reacted than the mistake itself that displeased the blue and whites.

Toni Martínez and André Franco also 'pay'

Toni Martínez was not even called up for this game, partly due to the performance below expectations he put in the previous weekend, when he was brought on to replace Danny Namaso, ten minutes before the whistle of the defeat suffered against Vitória SC, by 1-2.

In this period of time, the Spanish forward only covered two kilometres, did not make any 'sprints' and reached a maximum speed of 22 km/h. Records considered insufficient by the blue and white team.

Finally, with regard to André Franco (who has not played since 25 February, when he replaced Francisco Conceição, in the final moments of the 1-1 draw, in the visit to Gil Vicente), he has also left something to be desired, in terms of 'grit'.

With all this in mind, the board led by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa made the decision to proceed with the removal of these four 'stones' from the main team. This decision was approved by the coach, Sérgio Conceição.
