Former European champion left out by Mourinho: "He banned me from the dressing room"
The German midfielder recalled the period when he overlapped with the Portuguese coach at Manchester United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger gave an extensive interview to Gary Neville's podcast The Overlap on Thursday, in which, among other topics, he recalled the day José Mourinho banned him from entering the Manchester United dressing room.
"I trained with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and I thought it was great, a player who has vision and is fantastic to play with. The next day, on my birthday, when I entered Carrington, [football director] John Murtough was there and told me that I was not allowed to enter the dressing room, that the coach had said so. Someone could have told me or explained it to me in a normal way, but anyway, I went to the youth dressing room and trained with the U16s. José Mourinho completely expelled me [from the main team dressing room], so I had to ask him [Murtough] to bring me my boots and the rest of the training kit", began the former player, who crossed paths with Mourinho at the Red Devils in 2016/17.
"I asked Murtough who I was training with and he said it was the U16 team, so I went to train. I asked him if I could speak to Mourinho in the afternoon, so when I came back from training with the U16s, I trained so badly because I didn't know what was going on or if it was a joke", continued the German who was European champion.
"Then I had a meeting with Mourinho in the afternoon. He explained to me that he didn't see me happy here at Manchester United because, when I had my injury, I did my rehabilitation with German doctors, spending some time in Germany. Of course, I returned to United and I was in contact with the doctors and watched the games. After that, I was training alone for at least three months with a fitness coach. No, Mourinho never let me train with the first team, I think they wanted to get rid of me quickly. At that time, I was still very happy at United, I loved wearing the shirt. I loved it. I was thinking that maybe it was just a period", he concluded.
