Meningitis kills 17-year-old in space of 24 hours
Spanish authority declared "official mourning" from Thursday to Friday.

The City Council of Cabanillas del Campo, in the Spanish province of Guadalajara, has decreed "official mourning" for Thursday and Friday, following the death of María Herranz Gómez, a gymnast who was only 17 years old, as a result of a sudden illness.
"María left us suddenly, due to a terrible meningitis that took her in just 24 hours, leaving an inconsolable sadness in the town. A member of a large family of Cabanillera descent, María was a charming child", can be read in the statement.
"The Cabanillas del Campo City Council wants to express its deepest regret and pain for such a tragic circumstance, and sends its most heartfelt condolences to all of Maria's family and friends", it continues.
"In particular, to her parents, Raquel and Alfonso, to her little brother and to her grandparents, uncles and cousins, many of them neighbors of the municipality. We extend our condolences to her teammates and teammates", it concludes.
María Herranz Gómez was part of the trampoline team of the Ruditramp club in Cabanillas del Campo, and even joined the Spanish team at the World Championship of the sport, held in Birmingham, United Kingdom, in November 2023.
