The attention of Italian football turned, this Thursday, to Edoardo, a young fan who called Teleradiostereo telling the moving love story he had with AS Roma, even facing a terminal illness.

The man revealed that he would even have to be euthanized, in Switzerland, but, before that, he wanted to see the team of the Portuguese internationals Rui Patrício and Renato Sanches win the Europa League. A speech that went viral... but which, after all, was nothing more than a lie, as he himself ended up assuming.

"We live in a society in which, if you are unwell, you have to cry and feel sorry for yourself. If others see you as someone who laughs, who jokes, then it cannot be true that you are suffering", he began by stating, in statements made to the news agency Adnkronos.

"If I made a mistake, it was to have defined my illness as terminal, although I corrected myself, later, fortunately. My illness is not terminal, but rather chronic and incurable. I have lived with it for years and started an experimental cure that requires me to go outside Italy", he continued.

"That phone call I made to the radio, which I never thought would arouse so much attention, was made because it made me laugh that, even in such a painful situation, my thoughts were always with AS Roma, as they were today. I always joke, the lightness helps me", he added.
