Xavi Hernández praised Real Madrid on Saturday on the eve of El Clásico, which could be decisive in the fight for the La Liga title. In a press conference, the Barcelona coach said he disagreed with the criticism and saw merit in the rival's passage to the semi-finals of the Champions League, after having eliminated Manchester City in a penalty shootout.

"Real Madrid had to defend against the best team in the world. Many times the rival forces you to defend with a low block. It happened against Real Sociedad. They defended very well and there is nothing wrong with that," began Xavi, quoted by AS, continuing.

"The same thing happened in El Clásico. The first half was all ours. Tomorrow we have to be more effective because it's Real Madrid. Real Madrid has a lot of potential and one of the best teams in the world," stressed the Blaugrana coach.

Xavi Hernández also said he expected a "confident" rival because of their success in the Champions League and rejected the theory that the meringues had the "luck" of the game on their side.

"They have won many times and that gives confidence. They talk about luck, but I don't think so. They worked very hard and helped each other. It's not a coincidence. Three years ago they eliminated the best team in the world, City," concluded Xavi.

The match between Real Madrid and Barcelona is scheduled for 8 pm tomorrow, Sunday.
