Pinto da Costa: "Financial fairplay was the bugbear of the other candidacy"

Pinto da Costa had lunch this Sunday with supporters of his candidacy for the presidency of FC Porto in a hotel in Lisbon. In statements to journalists, the Porto president once again pointed the finger at André Villas-Boas, considering that the issue of financial fair play and football results will not influence the elections.
"Financial fair play, that bogeyman, is a weapon thrown by Mr. Villas Boas' list with sponsorship from Record and Correio da Manhã who do everything so that I am not elected. But they will not be lucky because we already have the UEFA document saying that everything is in order and that we will be able to enter European competitions", began by saying Pinto da Costa, quoted by the newspaper O Jogo, before explaining the reason that led the Academy to only advance this year.
"Because it was not possible before. We had a possibility in Maia which was later made unfeasible. Then in Matosinhos, problems with EDP and there were those who did not give up the land. We lost two years on that. And now we have found a partner with the greatest availability, Mr. Gaspar Borges, who collaborated with us. The land already belongs to FC Porto and it was possible to overcome all obstacles. A work like this is not done in a month or two or 12. It was when it was possible. Fortunately, it will start this term, as I had promised", he continued, without fear of not being re-elected.
"The predictions only at the end, as João Pinto used to say. Now it is evident that he has great support, especially in the Social Communication. Whoever opens Record and Bola every day seems to be the official body of Villas-Boas. Social networks insult everyone. But since those who are going to vote are not Bola, Record or social networks, I believe that the members will choose me", concluded Pinto da Costa.
