I am wary of Deco's project. The 'Messi' of the offices was another

Amidst the debate over who should take over the reins of FC Barcelona next season, several football personalities are publicly expressing their opinions. The latest to give his view on the matter was former Valencia goalkeeper Santi Cañizares.
"For me, the mistake is making hasty decisions, because football is very variable from Sunday to Sunday in everything. The next debate is whether Xavi has to be Barcelona coach. I trust in the project that Deco can do. For me, the 'Messi' of the Barça offices was Mateu Alemany," he began by reflecting on Radio Marca.
Mateu Alemany was Xavi's predecessor as the club's sporting director. The 61-year-old Spaniard was at the club between 2020 and 2023. The former Spanish international goalkeeper and, consequently, Xavi Hernández's dressing room partner in the 'Roja', added the following in the aforementioned interview:
"Laporta has something fantastic in Xavi, who is a shield against failure, because he is a Barcelona legend, he is respected even if you don't like him. The board feels protected by having Xavi," he said.
