Futre doesn't mince words: "If Pinto da Costa loses, it's the end of the mystique"

Paulo Futre was one of the figures who marked their presence, on Tuesday night, at the celebratory dinner for the 42nd anniversary of Pinto da Costa's presidency at FC Porto, which is taking place at the Espinho Casino.
In statements to journalists upon arriving at the event, the former Portuguese international, who was visibly emotional, showed his support for Pinto da Costa's candidacy.
"Without Pinto da Costa, I wouldn't be here. FC Porto members are ungrateful to this great and unique champion. [If Pinto da Costa doesn't win] they will be the worst group of members in the world. I've never said this, I'm going to say it for the first time: giving Pinto da Costa the nickname 'Pope' is the greatest pride in the world! This man is the Pope of world football, for the miracles he has performed and there have been many", stated Paulo Futre, as quoted by the newspaper A Bola.
"If, by chance, [Pinto da Costa] doesn't win, it will be a terribly sad day for me and for FC Porto, for the city. The mystique ends", he continued.
"Pinto da Costa was the man who discovered me. I remember that, when it started coming out in the newspapers that I was going to be loaned out, my father said: 'you're going to be loaned out for a year, but if you don't amount to anything, next year you'll be working as a 'taxi driver'. My life would have been as a mechanic and not as a football player. I was a rebel... Here [in Porto] I abused until I met the mother of my children, but when I abused, I would go to him [Pinto da Costa] and he would tell me: 'Paulinho, don't you think you're abusing?'. I guarantee that [when I heard this] I wouldn't leave the house for the next two months and, because of that, I got to where I got to", he concluded.
