Villas-Boas and Nuno Lobo test FC Porto's 'reign' of Pinto da Costa
FC Porto's president, Pinto da Costa, will face André Villas-Boas and Nuno Lobo today in the elections for the social bodies of the national football runners-up, with a view to a 16th consecutive term in the four-year period 2024-2028.

Between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM, at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, members will vote for the continuity of the 33rd supreme leader in the history of the 'blue and white' club, who is the leader with the most titles and longevity in world football, or for the first change of power since 1982.
Pinto da Costa, 86, has been elected on his own several times, but will face opposition at the polls for the fourth time - and the second in a row with two opponents -, in the face of unprecedented contestation of his sports, financial and infrastructural management.
Businessman and professor Nuno Lobo (list C) is once again running for the succession of the president of FC Porto (A), four years after having been the third and last most voted candidate, while former coach André Villas-Boas (B), who won four trophies for the 'blue and white' football team in the 2010/11 season, including the championship and the Europa League, is running for the first time in the polls and is the main face of the opposition.
These three lists are competing for the board, the General Assembly Board and the Fiscal and Disciplinary Council, with Nuno Lobo giving up the race for the Superior Council, which once again includes an autonomous movement led by lawyer and professor Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).
A tense campaign, aggravated by the bad moment of the current third place in the I League, reveals a new participation record, which has lasted since 1988, when 10,731 members voted in the first of two victories of Pinto da Costa over José Martins Soares.
The renewal of the membership card is a mandatory condition for voting and can be done during the day until the polls close, leaving the size of the electoral universe uncertain.
