"We tried to have the elections only at the end of the championship, and it didn't happen. We intended not to destabilize the team and not to have this whirlwind of confusion in FC Porto's life", said the former goalkeeper.

The manager considered that this destabilization was created by List B, led by André Villas-Boas, pointing out that it was something "strategic".

"There were terrible moments of destabilization, where the necessary environment for a team to be champion was not created, that existed. It was strategic for those who are competing against us", analyzed Vítor Baía.

The candidate for List A said that it is necessary, until the end of the championship, to create conditions for the team to "do what it knows best and show all its quality".

"We have the best coach in the world, and it's incredible how he manages, in the midst of this whirlwind, to keep the team competitive. The players want stability, something that has not existed since the beginning of the campaign", completed the former player.

Regarding the way in which the electoral act is taking place, Vítor Baía spoke of a "great demonstration of strength and vitality of the club".

"I don't see this great support as a desire for change on the part of the members. It is a way for the members to demonstrate who is up to the task of giving continuity to the victories of this club", he said.

The candidate for List A showed "great confidence" in the campaign carried out, feeling the "affection of the members" at the time of voting.

"I had the privilege of being with Pinto da Costa for the last four years and he is a person with an incredible focus. He demands from us a total commitment, from morning to night, with FC Porto. He is in a good mood and amazed by this sea of people", he concluded.

The elections for the social bodies of FC Porto for the four-year period 2024-2028 are contested by three candidacies, led by Pinto da Costa (list A), André Villas-Boas (B), former coach of the football team, and Nuno Lobo (C), businessman and teacher, also including an independent list for the Superior Council led by Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).

The electoral act runs until 8:00 pm today, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at a time when Pinto da Costa is serving his 15th consecutive term, since 1982, and holds the status of leader with the most titles and longevity in world football.
