FC Porto's MAG vice-president anticipates a quick vote count
The Vice-President of the FC Porto General Assembly Bureau today anticipated a quick vote count in the club's social body elections, which end at 8 pm and allowed a record turnout to be surpassed in 36 years.

"The number is a record, but almost 500 collaborators are involved, including internal employees and delegates from each list. I hope the count and recount are very fast. I can't promise hours yet, but those who are in line by 8:00 pm will vote. If I had to make a prediction, maybe in an hour or an hour and a half we will have results", said Nuno Cerejeira Namora, in statements to journalists.
By 4:00 pm, six and a half hours after the opening of the doors of the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, 18,131 members had already voted, a bar above the previous maximum set in 1988, when 10,731 sealed the first of two victories of Pinto da Costa, leader of FC Porto since 1982 and running for a 16th consecutive term, over José Martins Soares.
"Almost 20,000 members have voted at this time. It's wonderful. We have already broken all our records and are on our way to doubling the voting record. A fantastic example of civic spirit, education and how we are a democratic and transparent club", added Nuno Cerejeira Namora, one of the names on Pinto da Costa's list for vice-president.
The elections for the social bodies of FC Porto for the four-year period 2024-2028 are contested by three candidacies, led by Pinto da Costa (list A), André Villas-Boas (B), former coach of the football team, and Nuno Lobo (C), businessman and professor, also including an independent list for the Superior Council led by Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).
"I am very proud of my club and the members. We are giving a demonstration of civic spirit, participation and desire. There was not a single incident, but rather a massive access of members, who come from all over the country. I appeal to all members to come and vote. They have time. The voting is flowing very quickly and, after entering the perimeter, they spend only a few minutes. This is peaceful", assured the lawyer.
The electoral act runs until 8:00 pm today, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at a time when Pinto da Costa is exercising his 15th consecutive term, since April 1982, which gives him the status of leader with the most titles and longevity in world football.
