Desporto I Liga

Vitória SC put an end to a sequence of three consecutive games without knowing the 'taste' of triumph, by defeating Boavista, at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques, in Guimarães, by 1-0, on Saturday evening.

A game that started in the best possible way for Álvaro Pacheco's men, who took the lead after only 11 minutes, thanks to a fantastic shot by Tomás Handel, at the entrance of the penalty area, which gave no chance of defence to the opposing goalkeeper, João Gonçalves.

The chequered ones still tried to respond, but saw their hopes fall, once and for all, to the ground, at 60 minutes, when Chidozie Awaziem saw the second yellow card and respective red, due to a grab on Jota Silva.

With this triumph, Vitória SC now has 60 points, which leaves it in fifth place in Liga I, just two behind FC Porto (who will still receive Sporting) and Sporting de Braga (who, hours before, were defeated by Benfica, by 3-1).

Boavista, on the other hand, remains with 30 points, which makes it 13th place, tied with Estoril, who have a match scheduled with Famalicão for Sunday, at a time when there are only three rounds left to play until the end of the season.
