It is the culmination of an era. André Villas-Boas was, at the end of the night this Saturday, elected the 32nd president in the history of FC Porto, putting an end to the 'reign' of Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, which had lasted since April 17, 1982.

The confirmation came from Vítor Baía, candidate for List A, who congratulated "List B for the victory" to journalists: "The members have spoken, they are unanimous in this decision. It is a moment of transition, of change. The members are the ones who run the club and that is what they wanted. Now, we have to prepare for the future and appeal for unity".

"An incredible legacy is ending, from the most important person in the history of FC Porto, whom we must praise, because the level of excellence to which he brought this club was incredible. We will have to be eternally grateful for his work", he said.

"We know that the president has an incredible love and passion. Naturally, it is not a moment of great happiness, because he felt that he still had a lot to do, but we have to reflect on what happened", he continued.

"The members decided on this change, what we want is for the next board to be able to do, for the same, what we did. FC Porto must remain united, it is above everything and everyone, and this is the moment for unity, so that FC Porto continues to win", he concluded.

Jorge Costa, André Villas-Boas' choice for the position of director of football (and still AVS coach), did not hide that this is a night of "great joy", emphasising the "great desire to do things well".

These, it should be remembered, were the most competitive elections in the entire history of FC Porto. When all was said and done, more than 26,000 members exercised their right to vote, between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm (mainland Portugal time) at the Estádio do Dragão, surpassing the record of 10,731, which dated back to 1988.
