Stefan Effenberg, former Bayern Munich footballer, gave an extensive interview to the newspaper AS this Sunday, about the duel between the Bavarians and Real Madrid, in a double confrontation valid for the semi-finals of the Champions League.

A legend of German football, Effenberg believes that the merengue club was lucky to eliminate Manchester City in the last round of the Champions League and explained the hegemony of the Spaniards in the competition... with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"When you win a penalty shootout, you have to admit that you were a bit lucky. In football, we also need it, but I would not say that Manchester City were the most difficult to beat. In this sport, everything depends on many factors that are sometimes uncontrollable, regardless of the quality of a team. After the first leg between PSG and Barcelona, everyone thought that Xavi's team had qualified and look what happened. So I would avoid proclaiming myself a favourite," stressed the former German international.

"The truth is that we all thought that with the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, an era would end, but it did not. I think the key is the stability that players like our Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Antonio Rüdiger continue to provide. They all give a lot of balance to the team and that's what makes the difference," he concluded.
