A few days after celebrating the championship, Al-Sadd failed in the mission to reach the final of the Qatar Cup, this Wednesday, in a knockout match in which Al-Wakra ended up smiling on penalties (4-5) after a draw in regulation time (2-2) marked by the debut of Xeka, 24 after being officialized as a reinforcement.
The game could not have started better for Bruno Pinheiro's former team, given that, before half an hour of play, they were already winning by two goals. Afif opened the scoring in the 12th minute and, shortly after, Gonzalo Plata, ex-Sporting, scored the second, in the 27th minute.
With Xeka already on the field, in the last 20 minutes, Al-Wakra reacted through Assal (73'), while ex-Sporting Gelson Dala managed to reach 2-2 in stoppage time, at 90+3', thus forcing the great penalties.
In the penalty shootout, Uribe and Plata were two of the authors of the goals for the Doha emblem, but it was Al-Wakra who smiled with the final 4-5, now waiting for Al Rayyan (from André Amaro and Leonardo Jardim) or Al-Gharafa (from Pedro Martins) in the final.
