Marítimo wins in Penafiel and remains 'alive' in the fight for promotion

With just two weeks to go until the end of the 2023/24 II Liga season, Marítimo keeps its hopes of returning to the top tier of Portuguese football alive, thanks to the victory it achieved this Sunday in its visit to Penafiel, by 0-1.

The goal that made the difference, at the Estádio Municipal 25 de Abril, came right before the half-time whistle, when Euller Silva beat Manuel Baldé, in the conversion of a penalty caused by Reko, due to a hold by Reko on Renê Santos, which the referee, António Nobre, did not forgive. With this victory, Marítimo now has 60 points, which puts it in fourth place, provisionally, just two points behind the leading duo, Nacional and AVS, clubs that will still face FC Porto B and Mafra, respectively. Penafiel, on the other hand, is 13th in the standings, with 38 points, at a time when there are only two rounds left to play, with an eight-point advantage over Feirense, the team that is immediately below the 'waterline', so it is 'safe' from relegation.
