Sporting champion: Pedro Proença highlights "competitiveness and grit"
The president of the Portuguese Professional Football League, Pedro Proença, today addressed his "congratulations" to Sporting for winning its 20th championship title, highlighting its "competitiveness and grit".

"Sporting Clube de Portugal was crowned the 2023-24 national champion tonight! In light of this achievement, I extend my congratulations to the entire team, coaches and managers for the excellent championship, competitiveness and determination they have shown day after day, as well as to president Frederico Varandas. Congratulations to Sporting for another title to add to its already vast list of achievements!" wrote the leader on Facebook.
Sporting was crowned Portuguese football champion for the 20th time today, benefiting from Benfica's defeat in their visit to Famalicão, 2-0, on the 32nd matchday of the I Liga, to claim the title.
With this result, Sporting, who beat Portimonense at home on Saturday (3-0), won the title again, after the last one in 2020/21, with 84 points, eight more than Benfica, with only two matchdays left to play.
