On Sunday, Benfica handed the national championship title to Sporting on a silver platter, after losing 2-0 away to Estádio Municipal de Famalicão, leaving them eight points behind the leaders with only six points left to play for.
The match had a crazy start. First, Ángel di María scored a goal in the third minute, but it was ruled out for offside by just nine centimeters. Five minutes later, Jhonder Cádiz put the ball in the back of the net, but he was offside... by 41 centimeters. Before half-time, both teams had plenty of chances to score, but Anatoliy Trubin and Luíz Júnior, along with the post, which denied Puma Rodríguez what looked like a certain goal, kept them out. At half-time, Roger Schmidt made some changes, bringing on Florentino Luís, Rafa Silva and Arthur Cabral for Orkun Kokçu, David Neres and Marcos Leonardo, and the Lisbon club improved considerably, showing more composure when attacking. However, it was not enough. In the 71st minute, Puma Rodríguez finally got the goal he had been looking for so long, sparking an explosion of joy in the stands. Then, in the 85th minute, Zaydou Youssouf also got his goal, sealing the final score. After 32 matchdays, Benfica are now second in the table with 76 points, eight behind leaders Sporting, meaning that the title race is now mathematically over. Famalicão, meanwhile, are eighth with 39 points.

Figure

Often hampered by physical problems, Puma Rodríguez showed everyone that when he is fully fit, he has everything it takes to be a serious threat for Famalicão. The Panamanian international was a constant headache for the Benfica defense, especially in the first half. In the second half, he lost some of his energy, but he still managed to score the goal that paved the way for the win.

Surprise

Armando Evangelista brought on Sorriso for Chiquinho in the 61st minute, when Benfica were at their most dominant in attack, and Famalicão's reaction could not have been more... positive. With the ball at his feet, the Brazilian forward gave the Minhotos the composure they needed to get back into the game.

Disappointment

This lost title has a lot to do with Arthur Cabral. The striker came on at half-time for Marcos Leonardo and was given every opportunity to score, both on the ground and in the air... But the truth is that he failed to take advantage of the several chances he had to put Benfica ahead, which allowed Famalicão to start believing that they could actually win.

Coaches

Armando Evangelista: A brilliant reading of the game from the Famalicão coach. He knew how to exploit Benfica's weaknesses, fielding a team that was cautious but never gave up on attacking, using the physical strength of Jhonder Cádiz and Puma Rodríguez. In the second half, the team suffered, but it was the coach's changes that allowed them to turn the game around.

Roger Schmidt: The first half was a reflection of Benfica's season as a whole, a team that was disjointed and relied too heavily on the creativity of Ángel di María, the only player who could find a way through to goal. In the second half, he made some good changes, especially bringing on Florentino Luís and Rafa Silva, who gave the team more clarity. The enthusiasm grew, but as soon as Famalicão figured out how to neutralize these 'weapons', they stopped being able to respond.

Referee

A quiet night for João Gonçalves, with no major incidents to deal with. The start was frenetic, with two goals (correctly) ruled out for offside against Ángel di María and Jhonder Cádiz in the space of just five minutes. After that, he did not have much to do, so he deserves a positive rating.
