Tim Merlier Wins Sprint After Giro's Pink Jersey Pogacar Attacks

Belgian cyclist Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) won the sprint finish of stage three of the 107th Giro d'Italia today, with Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), who attacked and was caught 300 meters from the finish, retaining the pink jersey.

To add the second triumph of his career in the Giro, Merlier, 31 years old, won the sprint at the end of the 166 kilometers between Novara and Fossano, over the Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and the Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), respectively second and third at the finish line, with the same 03:54.35 hours of the winner.

The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who attacked within the last four kilometers in the company of his 'vice' in the general, Geraint Thomas, and was absorbed by the peloton just 300 meters from the finish line, maintained the lead in the general, with 46 seconds over the Briton from INEOS. In third place is the Colombian Daniel Martínez, at 47.

On Tuesday, the fourth stage will connect Acqui Terme to Andora, for a total of 190 kilometers.
