"Benfica can't become a graveyard of coaches"

António Figueiredo, a former vice-president of Benfica, defended, this Tuesday, in statements made to Antena 1, that the current leader of the club, Rui Costa, should keep Roger Schmidt in charge of the main team.
"Benfica cannot become a graveyard of coaches. Just look at the neighborhood and see what that resulted in for many years and what a firm bet resulted in. Our Sporting rivals, last year, finished in fourth place and that issue was not raised", he began by saying.
"Here, it seems like the world has fallen apart. They finished in fourth place, they didn't win anything and they are celebrating the national title. I am very divided on these issues and, obviously, I trust the decision that Rui Costa will make", he continued.
"First, have a notion of who stays and who leaves. Then, we have to clean up that squad, because there are players who, if this coach stays, are clearly surplus to requirements. Plenty often leads to misery", he added.
