With 65 points, Holstein Kiel can no longer be overtaken by Fortuna Düsseldorf, with 60 points, while St. Pauli, current second place, with 63, can secure a return to the German football elite on Sunday since 2011, in case of victory or draw in the reception to the red lantern Osnabruck.

This is the first time that Holstein Kiel will participate in the Bundesliga, which was created in 1963, but the club was German champion in 1912, when it won the Oberliga Nord, one of the five leagues that made up the German first division, after the Second World War, until the creation of the Bundesliga.

In the 1962/63 season, Holstein Kiel finished fifth in the Oberliga Nord and failed to qualify for the first season of the Bundesliga.
