A goal by Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, in the final stretch of the match, at 84 minutes, was enough for the 'colchoneros' to add their third consecutive victory in the championship, consolidating their fourth place, the last to access the group stage of the next edition of the 'Champions'.

The team led by Diego Simeone has 70 points and now has a comfortable eight-point advantage over Athletic Bilbao, fifth, with 62, with nine to play.

Atlético de Madrid are still 'looking' at the La Liga podium, whose third place is occupied by FC Barcelona, with 73 points, and who end the round on Monday with the reception to Real Sociedad, seventh on condition, with 54.

The Basques were overtaken by Betis (sixth, with 55 points), who today defeated (3-2) at home the already relegated Almeria (20th), in a confrontation between two Portuguese goalkeepers, Rui Silva and Luís Maximiano, both starters.

Pablo Fornals, at eight minutes, Isco, at 28, and Ayoze Pérez, at 64, scored for the hosts -- with William Carvalho on the field in the last half hour -- and Brazilian Léo Baptistão, at 45+1, and Argentine Luka Romero, at 66, for the visitors.

Valencia, eighth, with 48 points, did not go beyond a 'draw' in the reception to Rayo Vallecano (16th, with 35), in a match in which Thierry Correia (full-time) and André Almeida (entered at 76 minutes) lined up for the hosts and Miguel Crespo (starter, left at 66 minutes) for the visitors.

Cádiz has gained new momentum in the fight for maintenance, beating Getafe at home, 1-0, with a goal from Ruben Alcaraz, from a penalty, at 35 minutes.

The Andalusians remain in 18th and third-to-last place, in the direct relegation zone, with 29 points, but have come closer to Celta de Vigo, 17th, with 34.

The Spanish League is led by Real Madrid, who have already secured their 36th title, with 90 points, 15 more than Girona.
