A 'Super Dragon' with a golden ticket. The notes from FC Porto-Boavista

It was a game with a lot to tell. From the backstage to the pitch, FC Porto-Boavista, this Sunday, had a lot of emotion and reasons of interest. The blue and whites won by 2-1, in the last minute of the game, with a goal by Mehdi Taremi, in the farewell to Estádio do Dragão. There were also homages to Eustáquio and ovations in the stands.

Sérgio Conceição's men wanted to win to return to third place in the championship, while Boavista seeks maintenance. And even had it in hand.

In the first half, FC Porto dominated, but could not bother João Gonçalves, in the Boavista goal. The best opportunity closed the first half, with a shot by Pepê to the bar. On the Boavista side, it was causing some occasional frisson with quick attacks.

It can be said that 'everything happened' in the second half. Boavista reached the goal at 60 minutes, with a beautiful shot by Bruno Lourenço, with his left foot, to the far post. Three minutes later, Pedro Malheiro sees the second yellow and is sent off.

Weakened, Boavista had to retreat and FC Porto bet on the attack. Already with Taremi, Namaso and Evanilson in front, the blue and whites tied in a set piece... by a defender. Zé Pedro scored with a header, at 81 minutes. The same 'modus operandi' was used by Taremi, at 90+7'. After a cross by Francisco Conceição, the Iranian scored the winning goal and cried, after the game, in what is his farewell to the fans.

After the game, he admitted he will always be a 'Super Dragon': "I always respected the fans. I know that the fans were sometimes sad with me, but I accept that. And I respect that. Until my departure I will support FC Porto. Now I am a Super Dragon", he said. And he even had a 'golden ticket' for victory, like Charlie Bucket from the movie 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'.

Figure

Mehdi Taremi only entered the second half of the game, at 59 minutes, in place of Martim Fernandes. He was not necessarily the best player of the match, but he was undoubtedly the figure. With that goal at 90+7' and the tears in the farewell, no blue and white fan remained indifferent.

Surprise

Zé Pedro, who started the season in the blue and white B team, is one of the most important players in Sérgio Conceição's structure in this final stretch of the championship. The equalizer goal scored by the central defender was decisive for the turnaround in the result. He came very close to scoring twice with a great shot.

Disappointment

Some elements of FC Porto were below expectations, but it was Pedro Malheiro the man who can be linked to Boavista's defeat. Right after the goal by the black and whites, he entered recklessly on Taremi and was sent off. In the first half, he was giving Pepê a license to score, but he hit the bar.

Coaches

Sérgio Conceição: Out of the last game of the League for having seen yellow at the end of the match, for protests, Conceição lined up a team almost the same as the last round. The first half will not have satisfied the blue and white fans and, in the second, in numerical superiority, the key was in the insistence. He launched Taremi and he changed the game.

Jorge Simão: Ungrateful result for the man who wants to keep Boavista safe. With much less weapons than FC Porto, he was in the lead. The doubt remains as to how the game would be if Malheiro had not been sent off. He insisted on a defensive posture from his players.

Referee

Artur Soares Dias, from the Porto FA, had a very light hand when it came to yellow cards. He gave nine yellow cards to the Boavista players in just 12 fouls. As for FC Porto, he showed only two cards in 14 fouls. The moment of Pedro Malheiro's expulsion is, however, indisputable.
