Varandas 'demolished' before the Classic: "A fool will always be a fool"
Sporting's president encouraged the squad to "blow up" FC Porto in the Portuguese Cup final, something that generated some controversy.

Less than two weeks before the Sporting and FC Porto derby, the Portuguese Cup final is already starting to heat up off the field, all because of the latest words from Frederico Varandas encouraging Rúben Amorim's team to "blow away" their rivals at Jamor.
The phrase did not go unnoticed by Nuno Lobo, a candidate who ran against André Villas-Boas and Pinto da Costa in the FC Porto elections, who ended up calling the leader of the lions "ignorant".
"I know that Sergio Conceição will pass on this sad message from this aberrant arsonist to the FC Porto players," he began by writing on social networks.
"An ignoramus will always be an ignoramus," he added, citing a news item that reported on Frederico Varandas' speech at a team dinner, after Sporting's triumph at Amoreira (0-1) last Saturday.
It should be remembered that the Clássico at Jamor marks the end of the current sporting season in Portugal, next May 26, at 5:15 pm (Continental Portugal time).
