Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in London. Two goals from Erling Haaland were enough to separate the two sides, with the Citizens digging deep to earn the victory.

Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias started for Pep Guardiola's side, with the collective once again taking precedence over individuals. Matheus Nunes was an unused substitute. Manchester City were initially threatened by Rodrigo Bentancur, who fired in a fierce left-footed drive that was well saved by Ederson.

But at the other end, Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario was also keen to make his mark. After a curling effort from Hojbjerg, the ball fell to Phil Foden, who fired a shot straight at the Italian. However, Vicario showed great reflexes to keep the ball out. Manchester City began to take control of the game early in the second half.

In the 51st minute, the breakthrough arrived in fortuitous fashion. After Foden won the ball back, the England international switched the play to Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian played a low cross into the six-yard box and Erling Haaland tapped home. That's 26 Premier League goals for the Viking this season.

There was another unlikely hero for City before the end: Stefan Ortega. The back-up goalkeeper came on for Ederson due to injury and denied Tottenham twice, before Erling Haaland made sure of the victory from the penalty spot in the 90th minute. Pedro Porro, the former Sporting Lisbon defender, brought down Doku inside the area.

Haaland's goals have moved City back to the summit on 88 points, with just one game of the season remaining. The Manchester club could soon be celebrating a fourth successive Premier League title.

Tottenham have endured a poor run of form, winning just once in their last five matches, against Burnley. They also have a number of injury concerns, with Bissouma, Davies, Richarlison, Sessegnon and Solomon all out.

Guardiola, meanwhile, has a fully-fit squad to choose from and has overseen five successive victories. Follow the match live with Desporto ao Minuto.
